Batad Rice Terraces

Situated at the heart of the Cordillera Mountains and a renown UNESCO World Heritage Site, you may want to visit Batad, a small village in Banaue, Ifugao and perhaps where once can see the best views of the centuries-old rice terraces, aside of course the view seen in Banaue proper itself.

You can reach Batad from Banaue proper through jeepneys but you will have to catch up with their schedule which is only at 6:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to the Saddle point. You also have to expect a bumpy ride but try to enjoy it though. But if you didn't catch up with the jeepney, you may hire a tricyle but it will only drop you off at the "junction" and must hike for about 1-2 hours before you can reach the Saddle point.

It is best to visit the terraces when the rice is growing or before it is harvested which occurs from October to November or from April to May.

From Saddle point, you must hike down a steep descent until you reach the village for about 2-3 hours. The trail is pretty simple to follow, so you shouldn't get lost. Once you reached the village, there are accommodations of  inns and home stays where you can choose from for the night. Though you may also set up your own tent to an open area if you want to, just ask permission. Electricity is working here and water is abundant so don't worry.

We stayed at one of the inns which cost 250 php per head with free breakfast. We left our things and started yet another one hour trek going down Tappiya falls (which is in another album). We also hike up to the highest peak of the terraces to get a better view above.  It was a tiring yet a fulfilling experience and I'd like to get back there again.

Batad had always been one of the top spots in our province that I wanted to venture with and finally, I slashed it out as done. :)
